I Feel Good

My “old” Weight Watchers Leader used to have this James Brown doll. It was about 2 feet tall and stood on a pedestal with a button. When you pushed the button, the doll would start to dance and James Brown’s signature song “I Feel Good” would start to play. My leader’s message was simple and powerful: If you eat right and take care of yourself, you will feel good. Well she was right. Three days into this, I’ve been making good choices, eating a healthy diet, keeping my portions in control and walking about 2.5 miles each morning and boy do I FEEL GOOD!!! So here is to you Noreen!!! I’m just borrowing your mantra . . . .

  1. It is a great feeling - in the beginning..... There's the euphoria of starting that new page but here's what scares me: how do you keep it going. I find that after the first week (I know that we're not there yet!)or even the first five days, I start to lose steam. And I've started and stopped so many times that I'm afraid to share in the euphoria which in my experience quickly deteriorates into defeat. It's so strong - it's almost paralyzing. Any thoughts?

  2. Obviously that has been my problem. I think we have to capture the "high". I was talking with someone today about "runner's high". That endorphine addiction that so many athletes have. When I was successful, I had that "high". I couldn't go a day without working out because I felt so off. Eventually, life got in the way and all of those good habits started to fall away and I lost that "high". I was also exercising at a pace that I could not maintain. Balance is also key. I clearly have an addiction to food. I want to substitute that food addiction with something else. I think it needs to be exercise and holding on to that good feeling. When I don't eat well or exercise regularly I just don't feel well. Listening to the body and DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT is also important! We have to keep trying because the alternative is just not acceptable!! Read on my friend and join me in this journey!

I eagerly share that mantra with you!!!! It is my goal to share it with as many people as possible. My Thursday night group gave me a new James in June to celebrate my 12 years at goal. The old one had a broken leg, lost his hand and looked a little dishelved but he was still singing I "feel good". Keep it positive. I love your comment about balance because when we over do it we burn out and give up. SMALL STEPS lead to BIG Success and we develope habits and a lifestyle we maintain for life. But we always need continued support. There is no there....there. Make it as enjoyable as possible and fit into your lifestyle along the way so you will be able to continue....develope a healthy lifestyle not a crash diet. YOU GO GIRL!!!!
